Dr. Spence and Dr. JoAnne Korte generously donated 28 winter coats for BEAM students on November 22nd.

Mr. Ronneal Davis nominated BEAM's third grade students and teachers to receive dictionaries through the AT&T Telecom Pioneers Dictionary Project.  On Tuesday, November 22, 2011, Mr. Davis stopped by to present each third grade student with their very own dictionary.  The student's were provided with an opportunity to participate in various exercises designed to teach them how to make the best use of their dictionaries.  Some of the special features of the dictionaries are as follows: a multiplication table, Biographies of the US Presidents, Maps of the World and even a guide to learning sign language.  Our student's reaction to their special gift assured Mr. Davis that he made the right choice in choosing BEAM.  The students even sent thank-you notes to Mr. Davis and AT&T's corporate office.

BEAM Recycles

Under the guidance of Mr. Caston, BEAM began its first ever successful recycling program.  Mr. Caston sent an email asking all staff members to leave a box in their rooms in which they could collect recycling items, predominately paper.  In just a short time, Mr. Caston and the participating teachers collected three very  big boxes full of paper.  Since then, the weekly recycling collection grows and grows.  Mr. Caston has enlisted the help of students in educating them on the importance of recycling and on the box collection process.  This really is a great initiative at BEAM and we are proud to be part of the green environmental movement.

More Donations for BEAM Teachers

BEAM received two more generous donations to help with the 6th grade Business and Economics curriculum and Math curriculum in Ms. Goldstein's class.  She received a donation of a class set of financial literacy materials from the Actuarial Foundation.  The curriculum will teach students about banking, investing, and savings.  She also received some math materials to help her students with geometry and measurement concepts from donors through the Donorschoose.org website.  She is excited to get started on using her new materials.

Technology at BEAM

BEAM was granted $10,000.00 in 2010 through the Samsung’s Four Seasons of Hope Writing Contest for cutting-edge electronic products, software, cash grants, gift cards and educational programming.  It was Ms. Lane's entry that allowed BEAM to be honored with the grant funds.  BEAM used the funds for new video equipment, televisions for the classrooms, and other technology to help in student achievement.
